Still Missing After 17 Years: FBI Renews Plea to Find Ashley Summers

The FBI is once again calling on the public for assistance in solving the case of Ashley Summers, a teenager who vanished from Cleveland 17 years ago.

Ashley Summers, then 14 years old, was last seen on or around July 8th, 2007. Authorities believe she frequented areas on the west side of Cleveland, specifically the 2100 block of West 96th Street, the 3800 block of West 23rd Street, the 1100 block of Holmden Avenue, and the 3400 block of West 44th Street.

At the time of her disappearance, Ashley was described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 130 pounds with long brown hair and blue eyes. She also had a tattoo of the name “Gene” with a red heart on her upper right arm.

“Although Ashley has been missing for 17 years, our message is clear—we will continue to work cases, no matter how long ago they occurred, and remind the public that their information is vital to solving the case, said FBI Cleveland Special Agent in Charge Greg Nelsen.

The FBI Cleveland Field Office joined the investigation in 2008 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) raised concerns about Ashley’s case. Initially, there was speculation that Ashley might have been a victim of Ariel Castro, a serial kidnapper responsible for holding three other women captive for over a decade. However, no evidence connected Ashley to Castro’s crimes, and her case remains an independent investigation.

Anyone with information about Ashley Summers is urged to contact the FBI Cleveland Field Office at (216) 522-1400. You can also submit anonymous tips online at https://tips.fbi.gov/ or by calling your local FBI office. Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward for information leading to Ashley’s whereabouts. You can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously by calling (216) 25-CRIME.

Ashley’s family and the FBI hope that after 17 years, someone with information will come forward and help bring Ashley home.
