Vegan Outreach hosts Vegan Chef Challenge in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA,Tenn. (WDEF) From tasty cuisines to flavorful desserts, Vegan Outreach brought the year’s Vegan Chef Challenge to the scenic city.

“Chattanooga vegan chef challenge has 14 Local Chattanooga chefs. They are releasing new vegan specials for the public to try and vote for their favorites,” said Sarah Hyden with Vegan Outreach.

The Vegan Chef Challenge began in North Carolina in 2013.

Hyden believes the challenge raises awareness about animal suffering.

“News travels a lot faster nowadays and people are really becoming more aware of some of the ethical issues with animal agriculture,” said Hyden.”So a lot of people are going vegan for those reasons.

Being Vegan provides health and environmental benefits to a person’s life.

Brian Hand with Attack of the Tatsu considers Chattanooga as a dieting city.

“Things like vegan diets gluten free diets, we just want to make sure that we have enough offerings, to provide options for the whole community,” said Hand.

And Hand hopes that folks will not only enjoy the dining experience, But also try new foods.

“So many of us have a lot of presumptions about what things may look like and what things may taste like. The whole experience really. I think with this vegan challenge, we will be able to show people that, not only does it need to have meat in it, but it can also be like a very enjoyable experience of itself,” Hand concluded.
