National Weather Service warns of excessive heat in Delaware through Saturday

DOVER — Effective 10 a.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday evening, the National Weather Service has declared a Heat Advisory for the state of Delaware, including all three counties: New Castle, Sussex and Kent.

The heat index, or “feels like” temperatures are expected to reach and sustain more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, especially in urban areas, the weather service warns.

Warm and humid conditions are expected to persist overnight, offering little relief from oppressive heat.

The weather service says everyone should drink plenty of fluids, stay in conditioned spaces if possible, stay out of the sun and check in on relatives and neighbors.

“Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke,” the advisory continues.

Finally, the weather service suggests monitoring local reports for updates.
